About the Conference

The year 2020 marks the seventh anniversary of IIFT’s biannual conference on Empirical Issues in International Trade and Finance (EIITF). The first conference was held in the year 2008 at Kolkata campus while the successive conferences were held in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 between Delhi and Kolkata alternatively. The EIITF conference has emerged as a platform for bringing together young minds and keen researchers to discuss, reflect and examine new ideas and understand different dimensions on current and emerging trends in the area of International Trade and Finance.

This aims to have intellectual discourse on the issues related to international trade, finance and its development which provide platform to the researchers for communicating their views on their intellectual standing of empirical research in international economics.

The theme for this year's EIITF Conference is “Trade, Finance, and Development: Contemporary Issues”. We especially welcome original research articles with international perspective.

The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) was set up in 1963 by the Government of India as an autonomous organisation to help professionalise the country's foreign trade management and increase exports by developing human resources; generating, analysing and disseminating data; and conducting research. Today it is one of India's most prestigious business schools.

The Conference aims to have intellectual discourse on issues related to international trade and finance and provide platform to the researchers for communicating their views on their intellectual standing of empirical research in international economics.

To encourage young researchers who are currently pursuing PhD in the area of international trade and finance a separate track is added in the Conference. The session is open for all doctoral students pursuing PhD in Indian universities ( or recently submitted their thesis but degree is awaited).
