The
Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) was set up in 1963 by the Government of
India (Ministry of Commerce and Industry) as an autonomous organization to help
professionalize the country's foreign trade management and increase exports by
developing human resources, analyzing and disseminating data and conducting
research. IIFT started out as a center to provide foreign trade advice to
government bodies and has since played an instrumental role in conducting
research in trade policy formulation. In recognition of its rich contributions,
IIFT was conferred the status of Deemed to be University in 2002.
Over
the years, IIFT has emerged as the national university which focus on
International Business and Development, and such focus is reflected in all three
major activities of the Institute: Research, Training and Education.
IIFT Kolkata Campus
IIFT
Kolkata was established in 2006. The campus is located in the East Kolkata of EM
Bypass in a sprawling area of around 7 acres. The campus is developed as a green
and fully integrated campus with independent blocks for academic, administration
and student living areas with all modern amenities. There are centrally
air-conditioned modern lecture halls, syndicate rooms, common area, auditorium,
open air theatre, common courtyard in its academic and administration blocks on
exemplary design to create a great learning environment. The state-of-the-art
infrastructure facility at IIFT includes well equipped computer centre which
caters to the students, faculty members, and specific requirements of MDP
Participants. There exists excellant residential facilities for the students and
executive rooms for the guests and MDP participants. Be it the mystic beauty of
the architectural design, or the splendor of the campus in full bloom in winter,
it never fails to impress the visitors.
